many people have wondered how UX Writers contribute to the product’s design process.

I have detailed a somewhat ideal process here, following the popular design thinking methodology with a few tweaks.

However, this is not a one-size-fits-all. It’s just one approach of many.

  • Empathize…
…to understand the needs and goals of users through user research, conversation mining, etc…
  • Define…
…the problems and where they occur in the user flow.
  • Ideate…
…copy solutions in copy docs, word tools, etc…
  • Receive wireframes…
…with detailed descriptions like grid dimensions, layouts, design specifications, font size, etc…
  • Prototype…
…by putting the words in the context of the user experience.
  • Test
…with other copy variations with users or your team members.

What do you think?

I’d love to learn about your UX Writing process too.
